I'm a challenging, complicated, geeky, intellectual fifty-something professional with a passion for eclectic conversation, good food and alternative music. I've been out of the closet since my early twenties and went full-time in 2005 which is one of the best decisions I've ever made despite the inevitable complications. Like an increasing number of girls in our world I'm happily non-op, happily married, and as of October 2008 a very proud parent.
I'm a software architect and researcher in digital identity which is fairly abstract stuff but does have its compensations as I sometimes get the opportunity to travel for conferences: over the past decade I've had the pleasure of speaking to audiences in London, Edinburgh, Oxford, Goa, Berlin, Poznan, Vilnius, Florence, Milan, Amsterdam, Paris, New York, Austin, Denver, New Orleans, Salt Lake City, Cincinnati, and St Louis. These days I mostly talk on privacy but fit in the occasional codefest for fun.
In 2014 I started writing a book on computer programming "A Go Developer's Notebook" which is a longterm project much delayed by the need to earn a living, and I'm also co-inventor of a digital identity system which I've designed specifically to play nicely with the needs of trans people (and anyone else who takes their privacy seriously). Thanks to this I have my name on several patents which lends my dilettante career a hint of professionalism.
I've many interests outside computers and used to be the guitarist with goth punk band Toxic Frock. I also hold a degree in applied physics, studied astrology seriously for several years, dabbled in fringe theatre, and used to DJ regularly at Club Playlist! when it was resident in London. Most of my free time is taken up with parenting but where possible I like to waste it on computer games, role-playing, writing, and alt-rock ukulele.
From time to time I used to pound the dancefloor at one or other of London's alternative nightspots, whirling like a dervish or spouting pretty nonsense. These days though I'm more likely to be found at a tech meetup entertaining geeks than amidst clouds of haunting dry ice. Mostly though I enjoy nights in with my beloved: eating; drinking; and, exercising our minds like good sapiosexual neophiles.
In recent years I've become a saved (if somewhat carnal) Christian and would very much like to meet other saved transgender people to confirm I'm not the only one.
If I've joined your list of admirers recently it means I think you sound interesting and would love to chat but probably can't think of a good way to break the ice right now - so please feel free to take pre-emptive action. I would love to have more trans friends but contrary to appearances I'm very shy!!
The people I love to hear from are self-confident, intelligent, opinionated without being socially inept, and above all possessed of a dark, dry sense of humour. If you don't respond well to wit or sarcasm we're unlikely to get along, so please save both of us the trouble.
Musicians are particularly welcome as are other girls into the goth scene or with a taste for alternative music - especially if the terms Quarrier and Stun Army bring back fond memories. My music collection ranges from punk to dark wave via industrial, Johnny Cash, Hawkwind, White Zombie, The White Stripes, The Butcher Knives and Abney Park. I have a DJ-scale album collection which now sits untouched as my new music comes via Spotify.
You'll rarely find me in the chatrooms here but I'm always happy to hear from interesting new people via Twitter.
