The best way I can describe this incarnation of The Magic Theatre is as the most ostentatious house party you will have the pleasure of attending.

The look and feel is gorgeously decadent. And that's just the revellers. I loved being able to wander around the mansion. Upon arrival there's an improvised bar and reception. A changing area for those needing to refine their costumery. A downstairs bar with food and seating space is also available. I spent the most time in a chill out lounge with comfortable sofa chairs ideal after shaking your groove thang. And I just adored busting out some moves to the live band, the Congo Faith Healers.

The atmosphere is welcoming thanks to the likes of Claire, Miss T and unsung hero Serge who gave me a tour to get my bearings. As the vibe is so relaxed, it's easier to strike up conversation with people and I loved doing so throughout the evening. Security was polite and will reassure with their presence.

If you're considering a visit next time, make sure your taxi drops you off right at the top of the road. Your feet will thank you for it. There is ample free parking in the grounds for drivers, which is great for peace of mind.

If I had to critique, I'd say it gets very warm on the dancefloor. The previous venue, the Rivoli Ballroom had such an expansive feel by comparison. Yet I found venturing outside the front door a great way to cool off which unwittingly led me to help with an impromptu photoshoot for some lovely ladies. It's that colourful spontaneity, gaiety and freedom that characterises The Magic Theatre. And for that and many reasons more I will gladly return next time.

1st time to Magic Theatre and it lived up to it's reputation.

Glitz, Glam and a mansion full of interesting, friendly, kinky people.

The staff were helpful and security there but unobtrusive - the best sort.

WELL worth the visit - get yer glam rags out of the closet and go shake yer booty or strut yer stuff...

Definitely on my 'do again' list

As before it was an absolutely magical and theatrical experience, made special by the superb band, the violin recital, the music and the wonderful mix of young and old, guys and girls - all dressed to burlesque perfection. :)

I'm sure I would have enjoyed it a lot, but I couldn't find the damn place! My sat-nav didn't recognise the postcode so I resorted to stopping every few minutes to consult my A to Z by my dim interior light. After being on the road for over an hour and driving around the Crystal Palace area in a huge circle, I'm afraid I gave up. All dressed up and nowhere to go, I came home for an early night.

Simply the best event. The only place I can think of where latex catsuits and period costume can be next to each other and seem absolutely normal. Such a relaxed, friendly and accepting atmosphere. Magic Theatre feels more like a very exclusive party where you know everyone than a club or night out. So many gorgeous people looking utterly fabulous.

This was my fourth Magic Theatre but the first for my wife and the first time she had ever met Jennifer. I couldn't think of a more perfect place for such an important step.

Thank you Claire. This event means so much to so many.

Transport from Central London proved difficult but after arriving at the venue with Lilley, a lady I'd been messaging and with whom I agreed to share an apartment as well as keep each other company; we were both
in awe of the venue. I likened it to a hybrid of Bridgerton and the Fetish World!
The ladies turned up in the finery as expected and I had the good fortune of reacquainting with a small number I've met at regular haunts such as Way Out and Sheworld which helped with any uneasiness.

The food was impressive as were the over all price at the bar. I wish I'd known the downstairs bar was not to be manned all
night though, as I'd have bought a couple of more pints.
Only bottled beer was available late into the night.

The band held the audience in rapt attention for the duration of their sets but the disco in between was no filler but a smart mixture of musical styles and eras.
I chatted over all with a small number of ladies completely new to me but that had nothing at all to do with the night.

Some gatecrashers naieively invited were diplomatically and deftly handled so as to not ruin the over all vibe as well as watched up
the tension. So excellent job done on that, door staff. I'd still make a return visit and heartily recommend it as the over all buzz and vibe was pretty much up my street.

Great night out, thanks Claire and all who contributed. Great band too. Only thing we weren't totally happy about was the food. But all in all v. good.

Good fun, and the new venue works well. Less diverse than the Tivoli, but still a beacon in SE London

The venue was nice in an old building though it had its positive and negatives. The venue was cold for an October evening.
The drinks were at a higher cost than usual clubs.

The event was well organised - cloakroom and meet and greet.
I don't know why the cloakroom is £1 when some people have paid £50 for a ticket, that's unfair. Some things should be just given as a friendly gesture.

There should be a complimentary drink or bubbles for all who attend.

Rant over it was good, nice to mingle with others and see everyone's attire. Loved the drama, stage, pompous and show - yeah come on!

Next year again darlings.

This event was my first time at the Magic Theatre. Sadly I never got to go along to the previous venue. One word sums it up perfectly: amazing! I had a truly enjoyable evening. The venue was magnificent, the music was fantastic, and the outfits were simply fabulous! Almost everyone had made a huge effort.

It was such a friendly place too! You could chat with anyone!

Perhaps my only criticism is that we struggled to find the venue in the dark, but the fault lies with the local Borough Council and not the organisers.

Once inside, you're checked in before being guided to the cloakroom, pamper room or towards the bar! Those working at the events made you feel very welcome from the moment you crossed the threshold until it was time to depart.

My first time, yes, but definitely not my last!

After its first rehoming attempt hadn't worked out and the long suspension of socialisation for covid it had been a real buzz to see Magic Theatre back on the agenda.

Toiling across Beckenham Place Park from the gate on the wrong end of the drive which was the Uber driver's best shot at finding the mansion, I felt a nagging uncertainty that any beacon of joy could survive the gloom of 2020s Britain. Hopefully it was a good omen that the rain had relented and a second sousing wasn't following the first - mercifully before I'd dolled myself up. As I crested the slope and a brightly lit Georgian portico came into view, my spirits lifted.

And they went on lifting. Magic Theatre is most assuredly back. Its singular and exotic melange of exuberant costume, energetic partying, carnival, decadence and colourful eccentricity has survived intact. The people grace the classical interiors of Beckenham Place which in turn afford the people graceful settings; this house dates to the age of the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens and the Hell Fire Club and understands the proper accommodation of revellers. It's easy to see how this combination could just keep on going from strength to strength. Let's hope it does just that.

The entertainment was as ever top notch with the Congo Faith Healers proving an exceptionally felicitous choice of musical inspiration to the proceedings. I embarrassed myself by the number of people I failed to exchange expected badinage with but it's hard to be alone in this crowd; face it - wherever there's a Blanche Dubois you can always depend on the kindness of strangers!

We should all be extremely grateful to Claire for sticking with it, finding Magic Theatre a new home and extending the era of excessive exhibitionist extravaganza.
