Sparkle 2022 was wonderful as always, the weather helped and it was great to see many friends again. I reckon it was quieter than previous years? My only comment would be that, hard as I tried I could not find an agenda of activities anywhere. No of us knew what was going on, and none of us could fine any agenda for what was happening in the park. Hence, we did 2 brief tours of the park and went back to bask in the sun. The security queue was very off putting!!! Was there a Miss Sparkle this year?? ( Or is that too politically incorrect these days!) The lack of stands and vendors in the park was also disappointing, it seems the 'little guys' may have been priced out of it?? In any event, Sparkle was wonderful, meeting so many friends was great, the weather fantastic so thank you to the organizers. My suggestions would be to have an agenda, let people know what is going on and remember this is a 'trans' event. You cannot be 'all things to everyone'! But it was great and will be back next year, for my 10th Sparkle! |

I only had a stroll around Canal Street, I didn't quite have the courage to go into any pubs. There were alot of people out and about. One thing I will mention is that it was impossible to get an Uber, and extremely difficult to get a taxi. When I finally did get one, the driver told me he had come up from Leeds, there was such a shortage here. It turns out that the Sparkle weekend was on the same weekend as Eid, and alot of Uber/taxi drivers in Manchester are Muslim, so they stay home with their families to celebrate.

Sparkle is a wonderful celebration of everything Trans - and a great place to meet up with friends from around the country and make new ones. The Park event itself is great value (being free) as are the bars of Canal St, but hotel prices are high as is local parking. However I'll still be back next year! The stage acts in the Park seemed rather better than previous years, but I was uncertain about moving Miss/Mr Sparkle from the stage to Churchills which meant the audience was very small and the event went almost unnoticed. I didn't go to the Ball after a previous poor experience, sadly from reports of those who left it and came to Canal St it suffered once again from poor organisation and poor food.

Well my first ever Sparkle and quite a packed couple of days, Loved sitting out in canal street watching the tgirl world go by with my beautiful girlfriend. Great to see so many friends over the weekend too. Thought the park was ok but a bit of a strange mix of drag race meets family fun day. Music quality was poor on the stage, gad a much better time chilling outside in Canal Street listening to a seriously good singer outside one of the bars enjoying a drink and company of friends. The charity ball at the Mercure was possibly the most badly organised event I’ve ever been too and some serious rethinking needs to be done by what I will generously call “ the organisers” it was great to wear an evening dress with friends and see the incredible effort some tgirls had put in. But the food was mediocre, bar and entertainment shambolic and in all fairness if the money hadn’t have been for trans charity I would have asked for a refund. I’m sorry but there’s no excuse for such an amateurish event. That said we skipped out earlier than expected and got back out to Canal Street and went clubbing till the early hours and thoroughly enjoyed the pumped atmosphere in One Bar absolutely wicked. I’ll definitely do Sparkle again next year but just arrange stuff with friends and go to the places which were fun. |

What can i say but what i came for i got times 10 the people are so friendly the Sparkle event totally blow my mind the act were out of this world and im already looking forward to coming again . Susan x |

Lovely couple of days spent with my good friends and the weather made it so special. Big shout out to Leven apartments, what a great place to stay. The Saturday daytime event in the park would benefit from bigger name acts to raise the event profile even more. One or two high profile queens from RPDR maybe and has Eddie Izzard ever been approached? Saturday night was a little anti-climatic for me. Considering this was a "T" event, we were outnumbered by the 18-25 yoof who seemed to be everywhere. Clubs were super busy and bar staff overwhelmed in most places. Oscars bar was nice as always but the staff seemed snowed under. No personal security issues, everyone was lovely. Upon leaving on Sunday morning, a 51 quid bill for two days parking in the NCP with fresh piss up the access door was unpleasant but no more than I expect from NCP. Overall - 4 handbags out of 5. |
