It is the people that make it. Did not spend much time in the park - although more stalls and stands, the music and entertainment was not as good as previous years. Sparkle needs to remember its roots. |

i'd just like to raise a query about the sort of acts that are being booked for the sparkle stage. am i being naive, or is it reasonable to assume that at a trans event the entertainment provided will be of a trans nature as well? as a trans musician with a some experience on the local scene, i and my (also trans) musical partner put in an application to perform at the event. and were informed "thanks, but no thanks". so out of interest i looked up the line-up on the sparkle website, and it seemed several of those who were appearing had minimal if any trans connections. for instance there was some house artist who would certainly have qualified on ethnic minority grounds were that the criteria, and perhaps for being gay were that a requirement too. but i could not detect a hint of transgenderism in the info provided about that person on the sparkle site, nor found anything to corroborate that elsewhere on the internet. i did actually see that person very briefly spontaneously perform on the stage on sunday afternoon as a result of going to see the trans singer/songwriter contest which was of interest to me (and no, i didn't see anything "in the flesh" that changed my opinion). and of the four contestants in that competition, one was a guy who for some reason made no effort whatsoever to affect a feminine appearance, and i was not alone in being convinced that another was actually a biological woman. this all sounds like sour grapes, but believe me i'm not lying awake at night worrying about it as i have opportunities to perform as a transgender artist elsewhere. however (at the risk of raining on the sparkle parade) it's rather disappointing for me in that even though this event is supposedly promoting transgenderism in any way it can, it seems that is not always the case when it comes to the live entertainment provided! |

Absolutely brilliant. Four days and nights which went so quickly. EVerything was much better than in previous years, even the weather.

Second year at Sparkle xxx totally liberating dressing as Marilyn for four days xxx met some great people made lots of friends xxx even got a free makeover at Boots 7 Beauty xxx if you are unsure about dressing in public please go to Sparkle xxx

Wow, my first Sparkle and I had such a fantastic time, meeting lovely friends old and new. I met the amazing helpers and organisers, they all had big smiles. The events on the main stage were so much fun, will definitely be back! Thanks all. Xxxxx |

fantastic weekend met loads of friends most bars were reasonable priced as far as drinks were concerned no trouble plenty of security on hand and hotel top notch

Another wonderful weekend,met so many lovely girls and thoroughly enjoyed it!Weather helped!! Such a lovely atmosphere and great to see families there and a police presence.Roll on next year!!
