Chelmsfords only dedicated LGBTQ+ bar owned and managed by transgender married couple, Kirsty & Lilly. You never have to be concerned when using this pub, there are other trans, alongside gay and lesbian bar staff. This place doesn’t need events to be posted. It’s open five days per week (Wednesdays to Sundays midday to midnight). Bar Plus facilities are modern and offers everything customers require such as: DJ booth, main bar with extensive supply or draught and bottled beers; white, red, rose, and sparkling wines; huge selection of spirits with an exclusive range of premium quality Essex Distillery rums, gins, and vodkas. There’s also a Coffee & Cocktail bar offering unique cocktails and barista coffees.
The bar is tastefully decorated with a coffee bar vibe and a nightclub aesthetic in the evenings. Entertainment is supplied every night. Quiz, Karaoke, Drag Cabaret, Open Mic Nights, and Sunday Soul Lounge, keeps customers wanting to come back different nights as it’s always fresh and exciting.
Bar Plus operates a zero tolerance for transphobia or anti queer behaviour. Therefore, you can feel safe and secure. You’ll notice the welcoming warmth and celebration for who you are as soon as you enter the venue. This isn’t an exclusive club, yet it feels like one. How did Kirsty & Lilly manage this? Through sheer determination and designing an interior that naturally deters the haters of this world.
Theirs is a wonderful alfresco courtyard with artificial grass and large covering with heaters, furnished with rattan garden furniture for comfort. The exterior also has quality speakers delivering the music and entertainment from the interior. TV screens show the entertainment so that you do not miss out on anything going on.
Not only is it the most welcoming of venues, but it also has four rooms to hire [opening in December] for as short or long time span as you need them. You can access them by speaking to Kirsty, Lilly, or Craig. They can be used for dressing and cosmetics, or for private entertaining with new-found, or accompanying friends. What you use the rooms for is your business. Discretion is required, and hiring is paid before the room key is handed over. A deposit is asked for, and returned after inspection.
All in all, Bar Plus has everything you need for a fantastic experience that will not break the bank. There’s no admittance fee, no obligations, and has your need to enjoy yourself in its heart.
There is a large pay-and-display carpark to the rear of the venue on George street. Main tramline and bus terminals in Chelmsford city centre are 15 minutes walk away, or a taxi rank can be found to get you to the venue quicker. We have wheelchair access so no one will feel they cannot use Bar Plus.

Bar Plus offers a support group to trans, family, friends, and allies. The monthly event starts on 11th January 2025, and every second Saturday thereafter. This is a gathering for people to talk about issues relating to transitioning. We invite teenagers with their families. Therefore, discussion topics must be respectful and sexual/adult language cannot be used. If you are in need of someone to talk to, or can offer advice or a listening ear, then please come along to our event which is open to all. A Valentines party for the whole LGBTQ community in Chelmsford, Essex, London, and other outlining counties. Saffron is an experienced and top quality Drag Cabaret Artist, who will supply a great fun night out for all. Bar Plus is situated in Moulsham street Chelmsford which is a 15 minute walk from the City Centre. We have a large carpark at the rear of the venue in George street and a handy rear access from the car park which is clearly signed for your benefit. Bar plus also offers rooms for hire for as little as 30 minutes to an overnight stay. Please be aware that this event is open to the public - the majority of whom are from the LGBTQ community. Therefore, discretion is required when discussing room hire. This venue is a safe haven, not only for trans people, but all of the LGBTQ people, and any vulnerable section of society who might benefit a venue and events with zero hatred. In fact. Bar Plus is an official ‘Hate Crime Reporting Centre’ with three qualified ‘Hate Crime Ambassadors,’ therefore, we operate a zero tolerance policy for any derogatory, inflammatory, phobic, speech from any customer who uses our bar.
