Pity it rained a little. Perhaps some of the bars could could use cover outside just for this prestigeous event. Otherwise it was great

Ventured to the park in the afternoon and have to say we were a bit disappointed (second year of attending Sparkle but first year of visiting the park where the stalls and entertainment are).

Shame there's not more stalls selling decent stuff to buy. The right stalls would make a killing as plenty of people around. We expected more.

One of the bands was ok but nothing to write home about. Comedienne afterwards was a bit rubbish so from our point of view entertainment was disappointing.

However, Canal Street came alive during the evening. Went for a meal in Via which was good, staff very friendly and attentive. Ended up in View which was good although they could've done with more people behind the bar (but hey you get that everywhere). Great fun until it got too hot!

Overall, I can thoroughly recommend Sparkle for the nightlife and Manchester is great for shopping. We both felt safe and there's plenty of different bars to try.

Went to Eden for a meal on the Friday night which was absolutely superb. Great food.

Headed to New York New York afterwards for a few drinks and a bit of a bop. Good venue until around midnight when it got a bit crowded for our liking (we're getting old now) so headed back to the hotel.

Felt very safe.

How it was for me:
Well I just got back from Manchester and I reckon my third consecutive Sparkle was worth going to.
The weather held off for the park event on Saturday.
Lynne Featherstone's opening speech was quite heartening I thought and I know her sentiments are in the right place.
My friends and I popped into the TV Chix BarBar night; I'm not a regular Chix and that was a first for me. The free shots were a huge bonus so we didn't have to buy so much bottled beer. Good free cabaret elsewhere same night after we moved on. Best singer to my mind was the girl in the denim skirt who sung Bowie at AXM in the Sparkle Opening Party.
Like last year, after a bit of a slow start, Canal Street became packed during Saturday.
The thing I like most about Sparkle is how I always run into lovely friends from everywhere in the country as well as some of my local lot.
Security has come on leaps and bounds since two years ago and huge congratulations to the Manchester Police and co-workers for putting on all those much-needed extra foot patrols. I love my free neck-cord whistle too.

How to improve it:
Sparkle is the number one national event and needs to continue. Please donate to Sparkle to help keep it going and make it even bigger and encourage the organisers. I did and I have no axe to grind. I am in no way any kind of Sparkle organiser and I just go there to enjoy it.

In these times, cost control is a big issue for many. Let's share our ideas and experiences to help each other.

Here's mine: In Charles St. car park, if parking Friday evening, you need to re-park your car on Saturday -otherwise you keep paying the high weekday rate. I parked around 5pm friday and payed 7 quid until late Saturday morning. I paid, went out and went in agan, and it cost only four more quid for the rest of the weekend until Sunday afternoon.

Anyway, I loved it and long may it continue for those like me who have a less-serious side to the nature.

x

An un believable, weekend just superb.

Met some wonderful people there.

Got chatting to real couples, t-girls, gays, all so friendly and interesting, all exepted t-girls, no problems at all

On the saturday morning, around 11am, the heavens opened and there was a mighty downpour of rain, lasted around 20 mins, but for the rest of the day it was dry and sunny

Napoleans was so crowded on the saturday evening there was a que at the door waiting to get in, so we went to the Molly house instead, nice in there.

I feel it was even bettter than last year

Can't wait for next year's now
