I'd not been to the last few meets, so after the usual tea and chat in the Wild Bytes it was my first time in the Lichgate. Made a pleasant change being in a more mainstream pub, and a great choice of ales. I'll keep getting back here whenever I can.

Another lovely Thursday evening spent in the company of some delightful people. Despite the awful weather there was a good turnout in the cafe which was as welcoming and friendly as always. We then went to a local pub afterwards which although not specifically trans friendly has been very friendly to us on the two occasions we have gone there.

Trans-Matters is a lovely friendly group which meets twice a month, now in WildBytes Cafe in Darlington Street, Wolverhampton. If you would like to experience getting out dressed and meeting trans-folk it is ideal. If you find the prospect scary or you'd like to scout out the location you will be welcome in drab. If you can't/ don't want to travel dressed there is a facilty at the cafe where you can get dressed. After the gathering which finishes at 9pm some of us move on to a pub for a drink. Until recently this was the White Hart, a well known TV-friendly venue in Wolverhampton. Whilst its "hart" is in the right place the White Hart is not the place for a quiet drink and the appreciation of fine ales. So we tried a new pub last time, The Lych Gate. We were treated very well there and made most welcome and this is a pub with a very fine selection of real ales. We had a quiet private room there and could have a really good natter. Trans-Matters just got even better!

The Wild Bytes cafe is a great little place to meet. Yes its a bit more public - anyone can come in for a cup of tea - but when its full of friendly girls chatting and with staff who couldn't be nicer its like a home from home. As for the White Hart afterwards ... nice pub but a pity about the volume of the music and the Karaoke. I wouldn't go there if it wasn't for the company :)

Very nice group made me feel welcome despite my nerves and being in drab. The venue is very relaxed and friendly. |

Other responsibilities kept me from TM for a while, and indeed it was lovely to meet up again with the group in a superb new venue, 'Wild Bytes'. The convenience of having a delicious tea-time snack was most appreciated! What I found was more than just a social meet, but a gathering of sisters eager to swap stories of love and life. It's a 100 mile round-trip for me, but worth every mile. Unfortunately, we went to the White Hart afterwards, and despite polite requests, the DJ insisted at playing the music at dangerously high volumes. So much so, we couldn't hear each other speak, inspite of us all shouting. There was three people there when we entered, and one when we left. Says it all, doesn't it? Another venue has been pencilled in next time. |

Wasn't too sure about attending due to the more public venue. However found the venue very pleasant and didn't feel out of place. Had a bit of a walk up to the cafe (on my own) dressed and didn't encounter any issues. Decent turnout and then to the pub afterwards as usual.

My first time (but second time for the group) at Wild Bytes Cafe, a more public venue than previously although by the time we'd filled it up it was the few other customers that were looking out of place. It was fun to try somewhere different and with a very friendly welcome from the staff, felt quite at home there chatting over tea and cake. A great group of girls as always :) and rounded off by the usual visit to the White Hart.

A friendly, relaxed group that always makes me (one of the few "Significant Others") feel welcomed and included. Because of a problem with the regular venue this was our first night at the Wild Bean café, which stayed open late specially for us. The staff are lovely and friendly, drinks were reasonably priced (I didn't try the food) and the venue was comfortable, and felt safe. The small number of other customers didn't bat an eyelid at the invasion of our group, and a few wished us goodnight as they left. We now have a regular number who move on later to the White Hart. It's not my favourite pub (no real ale, and the karaoke can get loud later), but again it feels a very safe and accepting venue where everyone can relax.
