Only my second ever time out dressed in public, and I loved - no, *adored* - every minute of it. Simply being able to walk around in broad daylight, go shopping, drinking, sightseeing, whatever - as me - without any hassle, fear or concern, made the whole experience overwhelmingly moving for me, as well as unbelievably liberating. I come from a small Scottish farm town and I know all about parochial small-mindedness. So arriving in Manchester felt like I was entering another world - one I just didn't want to leave from the minute I braved my first walk out in daylight, and settled in at the Via bar on Canal St 10 minutes later. I met so many wonderful, genuine, warm and welcoming people - guys, girls, and trans people all over the spectrum - even just passers-by in the street who stopped to chat - that I'm still reeling from it. I can't even imagine how much this weekend has boosted my confidence for future adventures.

Deepest congratulations to all organisers and supporters for helping to make this event such a magnificent success in so many ways for so many people. I was so damn proud to be a tiny part of it. Certainly one weekend I will never forget, and wild horses won't keep me away from the next one.

To anybody else like me, who has worried about going out in public, I say two words: do it. You won't regret it! You'll be made so welcome and a part of a wonderful community you'll probably blub your eyes out just like I did before the end of it all, and your only regret will be that you didn't do it sooner. Sparkle brought a wallflower like me out into full bloom and I'll be forever thankful for that.

MBxx

thought it was ok but prefer the scene in Leeds. It all seems a little old and tired around the canal street area.

I was only able to go on the Saturday this year but still had a brilliant time...met up with lots of friends, treated myself to a new wig ( the stalls were as good as ever)
I did think it was a bit quieter than usual when I arrived but it picked up in the afternoon. The acts in the park were great especially Amymichelle and T-Party, as was the Miss Sparkle and Miss Golden Sparkle competitions. it was also great to see Coleen Nolan there as a judge showing her support for the transgender community too. The bars were full of friendly people and staff
All in all I had a great time and didnt really want to leave

Roll on Sparkle 2015!!!

3 nights and 4 days at Sparkle........ I could sleep for a week! Sparkle is such a hectic period..... you barely get there and its time to come home!! The event has grown since my first visit in 2009 and with this year being the 10th Anniversary it was bigger and better than previous years.... I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone involved who made 2014 SPARKLE a really Fabulous long weekend! ..... We arrived late thursday afternoon with just enough to get some shopping in before getting ready to hit Canal Street that night. There are some excellent Bars, Bistro's and Clubs on and around Canal Street ideal for a partaying weekend. Thursday is becoming a pre Sparkle Chill night where you can explore the vicinity and pick out you choice of bars and restaurants before all the 'mayhem' of the Sparkle proper. Friday day is promenading down Canal Street meeting and drinking and chatting to faces you can now put a name and personality too!... Friday Night Streets full bars full and music echo's in the air... a chance to try out your new shoes... new dresses.... new well everything!...... Again this year Linda (Leaa Sardi) organised her tombola and cake stall raising money for Macmillan Nurses a well worth cause.. raising £300+ on the day and more donations coming in! Well done to Linda and everyone who took part........
Saturday day very events-full shopping in Manchester.. a must!..... streets full, music mayhem.... stalls.... information and gorgeous girls as far as the eye can see! Saturday Night... the big night for Sparkle goers.... every bar, club, restaurant and tea room full! even the rain didn't dampen our resolve!.... Well girls still getting back to the hotels into the early hours... dawn was well into its thing! The worst thing about Sparkle is the packing and coming home!! (but a least you get a good nights sleep in a comfy bed! It was lovely to see all my friends and I think this year I made some more... every one seemed friendly.... door, bar, waiter-ing staff, Police and especially the lovely TG family of which we are happy members! Again Thanks to the organisers and doers...... I had a really special time! Hugs Lou xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
