Again the favourite venue for me, so many people putting so much effort into their costumes, a real Halloween delight. Music was a touch dated, not quite to my taste, but the dance floor was still packed...and having been so many times before we learnt to get there early, and buy all our drinks for the night before the rush. Shame there's not an Xmas one, but will be there for the next one for sure. |

Magic Theatre is a really fabulous experience and the Halloween themed night was no exception a really good-humored occasion with a hint of the macabre! It had no shortage of, scary horror film icons, Witches, Vampires, Zombies and gorgeous girls dripping in blood to make you look twice! But in keeping with the MT principle of complete dressing up freedom scary outfits were certainly not compulsory...That said this is really what a night out should be like. The Rivoli Ballroom is the perfect stage for a Grand Entrance.. its ideal and as a venue is stylishly flawed in mottled gold and red, suited to the oeuvre of the patrons and its musical genre, think red velvet walls, acres of sprung dance floor, crystal chandeliers, and oversized Chinese lanterns. The very place to dance, flirt, see and be seen. This is not exclusively a TGirl night but its a rich mix of people from all genders and walks of life, a diverse crowd with everyone out for the same intent…. to have fun, dance their feet off till the early hours but most of all have a damn good time! Having been uncharacteristically critical on my last visit to MT I am delighted to report that it was very much business as usual for Halloween 2012 with an excellent evening enjoyed. The house DJ and band both performed to a high standard with the dance floor getting good use from zombies, vampires, monsters, gangsters, grid-iron American footballers and suchlike throughout the night. Some people had clearly gone to a whole lot more trouble and effort than I did for the night and it showed!!! Some of the attires were simply amazing with some definitely being 'lusted' over by others (though obviously not me). All in all a fabulous evening though a real shame there will be no more MT until 2013. Definitely a 5-star event!!! |

Magic Theatre is such fun! And pretty much all the people there are lovely and friendly, male, female, t-people, straight, gay, whatever. So many people made an effort; I restricted my Halloween efforts to just looking like me, which is scary enough, and wearing dark purple nail polish. Which actually looked rather gorgeous. The one drawback, and it's a fairly serious one, is they only have two tiny bar areas and not enough people serving in them, so looooooong queues build up for drinks. But I guess that cuts down on the amount of egregious drunkenness and the point of the night is to dance and have fun, not get hammered, so maybe it's not such a daft idea. Very enjoyable event. The loos at the back of the venue need some plumbing attention. Apparently quieter than previous halloweens but still very busy. Changing facilities were good if a little cool. Forewarned about the bar queues but didn't understand why the doors beyond the bar couldn't have been open to avoid having the queue crossing the dancefloor - which thankfully it didn't do very much. Given the number of people the extra room behind the main ballroom could have been opened up too. But minor criticisms of a great event with lots of cool costumes and people. |

Hi Chixsters. Well I did tell you this was the place to be Saturday night. Seems like loads of you took note! For those who missed out - try better next time!! By about 11pm the Rivoli was rammed once again - a brilliant atmosphere - way more non trans folk this year - it seemed a good number of S&M types, but then it was Halloween, so who knows. But everyone was out for a good time... And everyone seemed to have gone to a great deal of trouble with their attire, most suitable for Halloween!! (nothing that you'd hire from one of those party shops I'd say). Excellent variety of music meant the dancefloor was brimming over all night - a few predictable Halloween favourites (Thriller for example) but the party mood was never spoiled. The only downside - as last year, the queue for the bar - half an hour plus at peak - I know this is out of Claire's control, but I just wish the Rivoli management would do something to help out a bit more, especially on the Halloween night... Otherwise the usual excellent Magic Theatre... if you've ever been before, I think you'll know what I mean! Then on to the after party just down the road at Jam Circus - hats off to the DJ in there too - a brilliant choice of chewns - never so loud that you couldn't hold a conversation either... Finally leaving to make our weary way home in the wee hours - did the clocks go back? A good job too - otherwise it would have been almost breakfast time when I crawled into bed... I did try to find out when the next one would be - March time was the best I could pin anyone down to.... So until then, we'll just have to make do with nearly as good nights out!! |
