My first visit to the magic theatre & Lived up to my expectations
Perhaps a few to many people meant a long wait at the bar but otherwise it was great.
Band and DJ both fantastic.
Will be back.

One of the best nights out on the calendar for transvestites in the south of England. The magic theatre is very Surreal and everyone who attends looks absolutely fabulous inside a fabulous building. Just go!

The Halloween Ball was just a bit too popular. I had to queue for 20 minutes to get in, (lucky it wasn't cold or wet), and once inside another 30 minutes to get to the bar. Queueing is not my favourite activity. Is it not possible to speed up access to the venue and make it easier to get a drink?
Otherwise, it's a great evening, and the bar is good value, when you reach it!

This is really what a night out should be. A fun centred, mixed crowd universally intent on having fun and on dancing the blisters off their very feet.

The venue is stylishly blemished in gold and red, suited to the retro decadance of the clientele and the music. At times it resembles the vampire dance sequence from the film Van Helsing.

Saturday was apparantly a particularly busy night which meant that 'flats' may have been a more sensible choice of footwear, given the time spent queing and the lack of un-occupied seating. But even this didnt mute the enjoyment offering as it did the opportunity to mix with glamourously scrarey nuns, bishops, angels with blooded wings and the ocasional sailor boy standing patiently in line.

Only (very small) downside was the snugness of the smallest room in the house. But even this had an annexe dressed in red velvet and gold and who wants to spend time in front of a mirror when you have the chance to dance to minie the mooch and baloo the bears anthemic signature tune?

Last word (s)... if you can go,,, go, dress up, have fun.

Magic Theatre is a really fabulous experience and the theme was Halloween so no shortage of Zombies, scary film things and gorgeous girls too! Got there early to avoid the crowds £16 on the door but well worth every penny! A very big turn out and sooooo many fabulous costumes! The Venue was ideal and seemed brighter than the first time this is not exclusively a TGirl night but a rich mixture of people from all walks of life, all out with the same aim... to have a a damn good time!! Live music mixed in with hits from yesteryear gave a 1950's atmosphere to the night, although hardly any of the music played came from that era! . At events like this you always meet up with old friends make new ones and have a wonderful time chatting to total strangers!! The only downside was the length of time you had to queue to get a drink!! All in all it was a fabulous night only sorry it had to end! Look out for the next Magic Theatre on the 10th December may see you there until then..... Hugs Louise xxxxxxxxxxx

Ok, so the Rivoli was rammed, more than I've ever known it.

The queues for either bar were rediculous, crossing the dancefloor!! Almost an hour to get a drink? I went thirsty! But that saved on the reported queue for the loo! How to improve that? Better staff training? Dunno...
Hell of a queue for the cloakroom at the end of the night too I noticed...

The band were excelent as normal - others have said they didn't play anything up to date, well they played Lady Gaga, Rhianna and more, just in a swing/ska style! Only drawback, this was (I think) their third appearance on the spin at MT - so maybe time to bring back some of the other excellent bands who have appeared in the past??

Also, a few of the comments I heard while the Berlesque girls were performing, and that a friend was groped, showed that it had gone beyond the normal MT crowd - victim of it's own success? Maybe...

So a few gripes, but still a good night out. The Rivoli Ballroom as a setting can't be beat for faded decadence, cracking atmosphere, in spite of everything it's still the best Saturday night out you can get dressed up for!

Good to catch up with a few folks I'd not seen in ages too - one advantage in the being sooooo many there!!

So Magic Theatre is still magic! Don't suppose it'll be quite so crowded come December, so I'll be back...

My very first visit thans to a suggestionmby Linda (ingirlmode12) , to whom I am very grateful! THis is a superb event in a gorgeous ballroom untouched since its inception byt the look of it.. and is perfectly set up for this type id gettogether . Tjhe only downside is the lack of emphasis on food and the rather crampled wqueueing arrangents in the bars, which are well stocked with a fne vriety of drinks.
The music is perfect and provided by a mix of dj and live band which goves a good variety of styles.
THe staff friendliness was faultless and they joined in the spirit of the event in their dress
Dress code is anything .. elegant, smart, asual, ott or outrageous!!! Come in whatever you lke, and make an effort... it will be well appreciated!! I will DEFINItely be looking to go to as many of their events s i can!

Well my first time at the Rivoli, and what a good night I chose, Halloween. Everyone made the effort, tgirls and all, I was Snow White, not really ghoulish, but my proper outfit never turned up. Loved the band they are so professional, and the burlesque show was brill.
Only one downside was the queue for the bars...really could do with some waitress service...got to be worth it for the extra drinks sold, and must be loads of tvs wanting to wear french maids outfits to serve everyone their dirnks.
All in all wonderful night, will be back in December.
xx

Possibly the worst MT to date far too many people allowed in,the queue's for the bars met in the middle of the dance floor(!),nothing to do with the bar staff who did their best.

The music was exactly the same as before, only louder
the DJ was crap ditto the band who came on after11,hardly worth it,the music was the same as before(50s rock 'n'roll anyone?) the most up to date tune i heard was 'wake me up before you go-go',Wham! says it all really. the actual venue
is unique but hardly suited to 600+people,hate to think what would happen if a fire broke out.
Be interested to hear if anyone else felt the same.
Sadly MT is off my 'must go to' list.

Not So Magic......

The place was pretty well busy by 8.30, a job to find a seat amongst the RESERVED? tables!

By 10.30 the place was JAM packed and still coming in....Fire hazard ... YOU BET! You could just about see the dance floor.
And the queue for the bars (one at each side of the dance floor) were End to End...40min to an hour for a drink ...'No kiddin'!

The band didn't start till 11pm, hardly worth the effort and the 'so-so' cabaret was an intermission from the sort-of-ok DJ.

The Peeps who came certainly made the effort, shame it was too crowded to see them in all their finery.

The majority probably had a good time but when one consumes alot of booze (which they did) one does.

On leaving one travels through a carpet of cigarette ends just outside the Theater steps.

I've been several times, some good some not so. Will I go again on a Halloween night? Not if there's a good restaurant to go to.
Value for ££, Worth the effort?.... For me? .. Not this time.

It was overcrowded this time - and queues were horrendous both inside and out. But what can you say about the Rivoli ... such a fantastic one-off venue, filled with people simply out to have a good time. Cabaret was as hit - and - miss as ever, but the Fabulous Lounge Swingers were just that! I loved it.
