Hello All,
Another apology for yet another long hiatus.... The last few months have been difficult for a number of reasons, mainly what felt like a blizzard of deaths in the family and associated not-great stuff. I'm also so sad to have belatedly got the news that we have lost our Julie Ross. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved a truly wonderful woman. She was such an inspiration and I was lucky to have known her. She was warm, funny, kind and someone who will always make me smile when I think about her.
A bit of general stuff about me that's been on here for ages..
I'm an ex-teacher in my - ahem - middle years and fairly well- preserved. My mother's advice on the benefits of ALWAYS removing make-up, cleansing, moisturising and not forgetting one's decollete still holds good!!
I'm very happily married to the kindest man in the world and I'm here to find old friends, make new ones and to enjoy being part of the community.
I've got what might be called a striking rather than a pretty face. I've always had very short hair, blue eyes and still just about hanging on to my figure, although the midriff requires work and foundation wear is becoming erm, more structured!! I've always been quite gamine and I love mixing it up a bit with gender - a bit mannish and tailored one day and uber femme the next. I love simple classic well-cut clothes as much as I love over-the-top feathers and frou-frou and it needs to be said that experiencing the liberating joy of transformation is something that I have the trans community to thank for.
I first got involved in the community 15 years or so ago as a result of a dear friend and colleague of mine, who honoured me with the privilege of meeting her for the first of many fun times. We ended up at the Wayout Club and it was one of the most fabulous evenings of my life! Through Nikki and later through Chix I met so many wonderful, interesting people and have been out and about ever since, life permitting. I co-organised The Magic Theatre at the Rivoli Ballroom for a number of years which many of you remember with fondness as I do. As circumstances changed, the event went to a couple of smaller venues, both of which fell short in terms of the environment a fabulous outfit deserves.
When I left teaching I started courses in Drawing, Painting and Graphic Design inspired by the pleasure I got from designing Magic Theatre flyers and had to adapt to teaching myself in lockdown... Its amazing what you can find on Youtube! Quite where it will take me I don't know, at at the very least it means I won't have to pay someone to do the next Magic Theatre poster! Self-reliance, girls!!!! As important as the skincare regime above!!
Since the last Magic Theatre I've been writing - if you don't give things a whirl, you'll never know!
Most of the pictures on here are a bit on the vintage side, but they're my favourites!
