Hi, I am Emily, a 33 year old transgender woman from Eastbourne.
I am 5ft 6in, hazel coloured eyes, brown hair and average build.
Like others on here I knew I was different from a very early age, around 6 or 7. I would sneak into my mum’s and sister’s wardrobes and borrow their clothing whenever the opportunity allowed. Occasionally during some games I would always opt to play the girls role and wear a dress of my sisters. Looking back it was probably fairly obvious to my parents that I had a girly side.
My dad, who is also a trans woman, also played a part in who I am today. For as long as I can remember my dad would always wear women’s clothing around the house and would take us out the house while she was dressed as a woman. Growing up I would always look at her with feelings of I wish that was me too.
I had been caught a few times during my teen years as I often thought I had more time than I had when dressed up and would suddenly see my parents get home.
Fast forward to today and I am now starting to live that reality. I have told my dad that I am also a trans woman and she is very supportive and so excited to be by my side through my journey. She said she knew this day would eventually come as she could see herself in me as a child. One thing I am really looking forward to is the ‘mother & daughter’ days we will have.
For now, I am looking for other girls like me for friendship, support & guidance.

I have managed to gain some confidence and told another family member about my desires to become a woman. To my surprise they were waiting for this day too and were happy I had finally told them. Once again they are very supportive and I couldn’t be happier. They are looking forward to having another sister.

Time for a little update. I have taken things a little further and told one of my closest girl friends. She was a little surprised but said it changes nothing except for I’ll be a woman instead when I’m with her. I am starting to now build my confidence more and hopefully will be able to tell the rest of my family and start to move forward with who I truly am.

It’s been over a year since my last update. So as of today, I have made a small step in asking two of the closest people around me to call me Emily when we are together. Although it’s only a small change it feels huge in my mind and confirms who I really am.
