Trans-Vacation Kentisbury Week (Friday, October 11, 2024)

Let me say first off, this was my very first time at such an event, so I have nothing to compare it to.

However, hats off to Sarah and everyone who put it together. I know they had been promised various things by the camp owners that didn't happen again - this was an ongoing issue apparently - so I know future events will be returning to St Audries where it has been held to much acclaim as far as I can gather.

I think I would probably enjoy that more, especially as everybody will be sited together, where as here we were accomodated in amongst ordinary families there for another event. This was a bit of a facer for the likes of me who doesn't go out dressed.

However, having said that, I did pal up with another TVChix member, MARIE124, and we did go off camp to the local amusements, a convenience store and a pub/restaurant dressed for the first time ever for me, and everybody was very nice. I really enjoyed this week of liberation to be Rosie, dressed, all the time!

The event's entertainment, at the camp's golf club, was all at night, which was maybe the only thing I could have wished was different i.e. something during the day too. I think this was partly down to the fact that camp's amenities were supposed to be open to us, had been promised to the organisers and then the camp just shut them down when the families went home, leaving us to entertain ourselves!

Those evenings were lovely though, mostly discos, quizzes and karaoke - I apologise to Carly Simon for murdering 'You're So Vain', why did I do that one? Who knows! The food and drink was good and the bar staff very pleasant and helpful.

I met and talked with quite a few gurls who accepted me for what I was - one of them - and that meant *so* much to me, I really can't tell you. Up here in Barrow in Furness, people like us are pretty isolated and also it seems quite reticent to contact each other - I've tried! - so it was so nice to be what and who I wanted without being on guard or hiding at home as usual.

If everything does pan out for the event's return to St Audries, I wish them all the luck in the world and hope to join them again soon!
