The lift to the rooms needs your room card to go up but not to go down.

You have to walk past reception and the bar to get out of the hotel onto Portland Street which can be busy with traffic and pedestrians so shy or nervous girls need to prepare for that but it is not a huge thing because as long as you are dressed reasonably sendibly to blend in, no one will take any notice of you.
