The event was great, especially the band. Unfortunately we had problems getting both to Woburn Safari park Lodge and back. On the way there, the taxi got lost, taking us to two closed entrances. The map supplied was out of date, not geared towards us and not clear, (I can give precise details on request) implying that one of these entrances was open when the park was closed (which it wasnt) and not showing where the village was. Getting back was an utter nightmare. The staff called the taxi company four times. Each time they claimed to be coming in 5 minutes, and we waited till 1 a.m. much of it shivering in the windy, snowy car park, and it never came. At 1 am the staff very kindly took us to the Woburn Hotel in their landrover and the reception there called another taxi which came at 1.30 so it took us 1 hour 45 minutes to get back and I spent £30 on taxis. This took the shine off what should hae been a nice evening. I realise that incompetent taxis are not the problem of the event organisers and that taxi drivers who don't know their locality should not be driving taxis but I do think that it would be a little more considerate either that the ball could be held in a location that is easier to reach, (especailly for those of us who do not have cars). or - given that the Pink Punters bus seems to have died a death - to have organised a bus, say from the camp. We could pay for this and I am sure it would be less than £30 a head and not involve waiting in the wind and ruining the evening |
