Wednesday 25th February
Trans people, along with our cis friends and allies, have been meeting and socialising midweek in Manchester since the late 1970s. That tradition is still going strong. Whether you are completely new to this, a cross dresser finding your feet, a full time trans woman or anywhere in between, you are welcome to join us and find what works for you.
We have a well trodden every Wednesday schedule with two options, either Gay Village based or city based depending on your experience and interests.
I am also looking for someone prepared to establish and help run a monthly afternoon café meet up for younger trans people, to be held in the Northern Quarter under the auspices of our Community Support Group which has clear privacy and safety safeguards; no screenshots shared outside, no forwarding messages, no photos without consent, no outing, a simple harassment policy, how to report concerns and newcomer support. Please message me if you are interested in this and we can discuss.
🌈 The weekly evening Village option
For locals and regulars, visitors, novices and anyone who prefers scene bars and familiar locations.
6:00pm to 9:00pm
You will usually find us in Via or Velvet on Canal Street.
8:00pm ish to 11:00pm-ish
Ladies meet up at Iconic Bar on Richmond Street, a relaxed, friendly little bar where you get 10% off drinks just for being trans 🙂 If you want an introduction to the group please ask me. If you do not ask I will assume you want privacy and I will not interrupt you.
11:00pm-ish onwards
People usually drift back to Via on Canal Street or to The Goose, New York New York or Centre Stage on Bloom Street.
🏙️ The city option
For those comfortable among the general public or ready to spread their wings with support I am usually around town and or the suburbs from daytime through to around 2:00am so feel free to message me if you would like to hang out or chat things through. The more fixed times and activities are:
2:00pm ish to 5:00pm ish
Shopping and café hopping in the city centre.
5:30pm-ish – 8:00pm-ish,
Evening meal — this week in Chakalaka, 105a Oldham Stree tM4 1LW a South African style restaurant. This is the last day of their popular 50% off mains offer so it might be busy, at the moment 5 have booked with me for the dinner, please let me know if you wish to join us so I can add you to the booking and make sure we are all seated together.
From 8:00pm-ish
I will decide where to go on the night. If anyone needs walking back to the Village I am happy to do that first.
A few important notes for the city option or meeting up with me:
If you would like to meet up, I can share my contact details, please keep me updated on your timings so I can match my wandering about with your schedule so our paths do cross.
Please be on time. Past experience has taught me to stick to my schedule. If you are late I will have moved on.
If you join me on the city option please remember we will be among the mostly straight general public, dress in a way a parent would not find impossible to explain to a child.
Wear shoes suitable for walking, I am not into snail paced wanderings around town.
If you have any questions message me here. You can also join our Manchester Networking & Trans Community Support Facebook group, “The Buzz”, a private and secure group so you will need to ask me for an invitation.
Come along if you can. It is a lovely social evening, a chance to make new friends, new memories and to continue a tradition of trans people meeting in Manchester midweek for almost 50 years.
Single men, you are important allies and very welcome to come, please either arrange to come with one of the ladies or contact me first so we can discuss your expectations for the evening to make sure they are reasonable.
And honestly, how much life do any of us have left anyway.
So let’s make the most of it. 💜
