Trans people, together with our cis friends and allies, have been meeting and socialising in Manchester on Wednesday evenings since the late 1970s, initially through the Manchester TV/TS Group, established in 1974โ75 and subsequently through Northern Concord and Manchester Concord.
Society is now more enlightened and todayโs Wednesday socialising is a modern evolution of that long Manchester tradition. People generally choose between two broad options: mainstream city-centre bars, restaurants and clubs or the Gay Village, some people remain within one area, while others move between them during the evening.

๐ THE GAY VILLAGE OPTION
Many people find this a comfortable place to begin building their confidence while others value the freedom it offers for more individual or expressive styles of presentation.
People often begin meeting during the late afternoon, usually in Via and sometimes moving on to Velvet. Later in the evening, people tend to drift between Via, The Goose, Iconic, Oscars, REM, The Molly House, New York New York, Centre Stage, Brewers, Eva and other nearby venues. Some remain out until around 3.00am.
With so many bars available, people are not always in the same place at the same time. I can sometimes help connect visitors but I do not organise or track everyoneโs movements around the Gay Village nor do they tend to keep me updated on where they are. A little preparation therefore pays dividends. Marking yourself as attending this event, using the forums or contacting people you know might be out will make meeting others considerably easier.
๐๏ธ THE CITY-CENTRE OPTION
I will be out during the day and evening in mainstream city-centre venues with a few others joining me at different times. We usually try to eat at around 6.00pm. If you would like to join us, you are welcome. Please message me beforehand and I will let you know our likely locations and timings.
This option involves walking between several venues so comfortable walking shoes are important. The city-centre option also involves mixing with the general public and is best suited to people who already feel reasonably comfortable being seen and socialising in mainstream environments. If you are unsure whether it would suit you, message me beforehand and I will happily talk it through with you.

Whatever you decide to do, remember that this is a city-wide experience with more than 700 bars. Meeting other trans people simply by chance is unlikely but a little preparation can make it happen.

We had dinner at Madre - good food and lively atmosphere. Canal Street was pretty dead early on, and some weird folk group were in the Molly House. Things livened up later though with a fun drag show at Via.
