Trans people, together with our cis friends and allies, have been meeting and socialising midweek in Manchester since the late 1970s. That tradition is still going strong. Whether you are completely new to this, a cross-dresser finding your feet, a full-time trans woman or somewhere in between, you are welcome to join us and find what works for you.
We have a well-established every-Wednesday pattern with two options, depending on your confidence, experience and interests.
🌈 The Village Option
For locals and regulars, visitors, novices and those who prefer scene bars and familiar locations. Please note that times are always approximate.
6:00pm to 9:00pm
You will usually find some of us in Via or Velvet on Canal Street. If you prefer an alternative venue there is The Molly House 1st floor which though prioritises folk singing and The Goose which prioritises its quiz night, Oscars and Eva.
8:00pm-ish to 11:00pm
Ladies usually meet in Iconic Bar on Richmond Street.
11:00pm-ish onwards
People usually drift back to Via on Canal Street or to The Goose, New York New York or Centre Stage all on Bloom Street.
🏙️ The City Option
For anyone comfortable among the general public or ready to spread their wings with support from those of us experienced at being out and about;
I will be leading the City Option through the day and evening. If you would like to join part of it, please message me in advance where possible. Times and activities are approximate, except for dinner where a table usually must be booked so let me know if you want to join that.
Up until 3:00pm
Shopping, cafés and general wandering around town or the suburbs.
3:00pm-ish
Christine and I will be in Via on Canal Street.
4:00pm-ish to 5:55pm Location not decided yet.
6:00pm to 8:00pm
We will eat at Yates, 49 Portland Street M1 3LD, let me know if you wish to join us and I will make sure we get a big enough table to seat everyone.
From 8:30pm-ish to 11:00pm-ish
We will come back to the Village to join those in Iconic Bar.
11:00pm-ish onwards
Fab Café, 109 Portland Street, M1 6DN. Not actually a café, but a 70s and 80s themed bar with a DJ.
A few important notes for the City Option:
If you would like to meet up, I can share my contact details.
Please be on time. Past experience has taught me to keep to the schedule and if you are late I will most likely have moved on.
We will be among the general public throughout so please dress with good judgement for ordinary public settings.
Please wear shoes suitable for walking as the City Option involves moving around town at a reasonable pace.
If you have questions, message me here. You can also join our Manchester and North West networking Facebook group, The Buzz, which is private and secure. Please ask me if you would like an invitation.
Come along if you can. It is a lovely social evening, a chance to make new friends, make new memories and continue a tradition of trans people meeting in Manchester midweek for almost 50 years.
If you are a cis man, please arrange to come with one of the ladies or speak to me first so we can make sure your expectations are appropriate. We are a social group, not a dating or sexual activities group.
And honestly, how much life do any of us have left anyway, so let us spend it, when we can, doing what lights up our lives. 💜
