Description:
A bar which is a recreation of the famous / notorious Colony Room which was in Dean Street, Soho, and was the haunt of artists and writers. This new bar was established by artist Darren Coffield, and is in Heddon Street, off the West side of Regent Street, across the road from the Tommy Hilfiger shop. The street was the location for the cover photo of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album, and there is a plaque to commemorate it outside no.23. The bar is in the basement of the Ziggy Green restaurant, and entry is via a door around the corner of the restaurant with a no.4 on the door. You will see some stairs lit by red neon. Go down the stairs and the door to the bar is on the right. Drinks are average West End prices. Opening times are 3pm to 11pm. (maybe closed on Monday and finish at 10pm on Tuesday) There is a pianist from Wednesday to Saturday. Tends to be quiet early evening. The clientele are both young and old(er). Members of the trans community are accepted and welcomed.
Nearest tube stations are Piccadilly Circus or Oxford Street. Bus stops nearby in Regent Street for routes 88,94,159,453 and N18. (the stop is Beak Street / Hamleys)

Basement bar, entrance opposite Starman pub if you couldn't find it like me. A speakeasy affair, walls festooned with memorabilia and a smattering of Soho characters old and new. A very friendly crowd and pianist who could play just about anything including, of course, all your fav bowie hits. drink prices were reasonable too.

I went as I was already in the area, as it happened it seems that there were two events in the same small space! Both groups mingled well and there was an excellent pian player (apparently he played some with Bowie) and he also did requests. A few were singing along with the piano player, who was in my opinion, was super.

All this led to a really good evening and met a few new girls, plus re-acquainted with a couple from a long long time ago.

It's easy to find, nice small space, small bar, but not sure it can be this good again without the piano player, maybe he could be a fixture with the event, just a thought

NOTE: I've put average security, it's part of a restaurant and in reality, no security and definitely not needed.

A great night because it happened to coincide with a special night of Bowie-inspired art, crowds of people and a terrific pianist.
