Description:
Retro Bar is a very friendly and busy mainly gay pub with a great atmosphere. George Court is an alleyway just off the south side of The Strand, in London, and is situated between Superdrug and Halifax. Normal pub hours. There is scope for parking nearby in John Adam street but it is very limited and difficult to access. The bar is a short walk from either Charing Cross or Embankment tube stations.Retro Rendezvous currently meets on Wednesday evenings at 8pm. If you want to eat beforehand, there are places in Villiers Street: Hobson's fish and chips, Lulivo Italian Restaurant, and Five Guys burgers, and a Pizza Express in the Strand, corner of Duncannon Street.

Retro Rendezvous is probably London's best free, purely social, weekly gathering of t-girls, transexuals, and occasional admirers. In a great friendly gay / mixed bar. Just the place to make your debut in a dress and get to know a lovely bunch of people. We are usually downstairs at the back on the left, but there should be a notice on the the board in the entrance. Tables reserved from 8. You may be the first, but don't worry, you won't be alone for long. We drink, we chat, we gossip, we put the world to rights, we may flirt, and we always try to be stylish. Well-behaved male admirers are welcome to join us. Tina x |

Another f____g fantastic night at retro Mr M (one of the wonderful bar staff, They're all lovely people) joined us to socialise for an hour, and generously bought us all a drink. He's been on the scene long enough to share reminiscences of the PhilBeach with suzi I met two lovely cis girls in the smoking room, about to depart for the half way to heaven, they seemed to enjoy my interactions so much, they delayed leaving to the point they needed to run the 200 yards to get a last order in the half way. And they were either 1st class actors or ecstatic when i said we're here every Wednesday, come and join us again. It's that kind of thing, genuinely happy people in a comfortable safe space, guard down, joyfully open to conversational intercourse with others sharing that comfortable space. I don't know of any other venue where this magic happens. |

Second time I have been there and found it ideal for first time in a public space Plenty of support from the other " Girls " and a place to get changed and is a lovely relaxed venue with a nice crowd of customers and lovely bar staff. I would recommend the Retro bar to anyone who is starting out and it is handy being five minute walk from Charing cross station. |

Thank you Jackie and the team in a very full Retro bar last night… I think you had half the pub for those attending 👏🏽👏🏽 was a bit awkward at the start as am afraid I couldn’t recognise anyone … very impressed a few recognised me (Kate and Katherine aka Bad Barbie (absolutely stunning) xx) from here and we chatted. I recognised only Pam when she came in xx Very well turned out crowd (many in everyday womens wear as opposed to party frocks and lots of confident make up / albeit less OTT although a fab goth amazonian girl with dark lip makeup was lighting up the back tables xx), mainly younger from how I could judge and all very comfortable in themselves and their partners (some CIS girls attended with a few men). Jackie came up and said hello which was very welcome to a new attendee (although this was my second time). I would say this event would suit those with a fair degree of comfort in being in a less club atmosphere … a more ‘normal pub setting’ as it were but also although am sure there were no judgements made, I felt perhaps the crowd last night were less inclined for those who prefer a more intimate environment (although I did spot some kissing in the pub … with a mm couple that were not part of the Retro event). There was a lot of eye contact with others but perhaps due to the numbers, it was difficult to speak to all. Maybe that’s my own insecurity in speaking too, as I felt I could never be as comfortable or as beautiful as everyone else there? I suppose it’s one thing being beautiful by yourself (or thinking you are) and then confronted by actual beauty in a room and realising how far away from that standard you really are!! Anyhoo … the event was well organised and the organisers were very hospitable. The venue is fab and location is quite central and easy to find (on google). Will recommend but no need to glam up … unless you wish to lol have fun and do hope to attend again xx |
